The Union of Greek Paper Mills (EVICHE) successfully held its event on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at the Athenaeum InterContinental Athens, where the IOBE study, "The Paper Industry in Greece: Contribution to the Greek economy, challenges, and growth prospects," was presented. Key attendees included Kostis Hatzidakis, Minister of National Economy and Finance, Alexandra Sdoukou, Deputy Minister of Environment and Energy, and Anna Mani-Papadimitriou, Deputy Minister of Development. Dimitris Theocharis, President of EVICHE, represented the association. Nikos Vettas, IOBE General Director, gave the opening remarks, and Sofia Stavraki, IOBE Researcher, presented the study. The event was moderated by Chrysa Liaggou, journalist at "Kathimerini".
In his speech, Minister Kostis Hatzidakis highlighted Greece's recent economic growth and the potential of the paper industry to contribute further through investments and job creation. Deputy Minister Alexandra Sdoukou focused on reducing energy costs to enhance industry competitiveness, citing government initiatives in energy efficiency. Deputy Minister Anna Mani-Papadimitriou discussed industrial policy progress.
Dimitris Theocharis expressed pride in the IOBE study, which portrays a dynamic sector, and noted the government's support during challenging times. Nikos Vettas emphasized the importance of analyzing key industries and reallocating resources to boost productivity and growth.
